LESSON FOUR
Learning Styles
While the four pillars of Active Learning, understanding, verbalization, practicing, and application cover the most necessary concepts needed to take in and retain information, there are still additional forms from which people may learn best.
It is my goal that Draw Daily provides every aspect, to help every student reach their artistic goals. Finding the right blend of learning styles will empower you to make the most of your study sessions. Below you’ll find each modality as well as how to execute these methods.
Gamification Learning: Turning Learning into an Adventure
Gaming learners are champions of adventure, thriving when every lesson is a quest, every challenge a new world to conquer, and every mentor a sage to learn from. Gamers are motivated by goals, rewards, challenges and clear progression as they learn. Instead of aimless wander, students have a path to follow, tasks to complete, and evils to conquer.
Our Course’s quest system is built to ignite that very spirit. You’ll find Quests with bold objectives, side quests that bring additional trials, and actions that reward the courage to explore, collaborate, and grow. Checklists help track your steps, side activities encourage curiosity and mastery beyond the core path.
Every quest you complete brings you closer to leveling up your skills. It’s about achievement, unlocking new knowledge, and watching your growth unfold like a story. With every milestone, you aren’t just studying - you’re adventuring! Casting spells with Inkethurgy, forging artifacts with the wave of your hand, and earning your legend as an artist.
Visual Learning
Visual learners absorb information best by watching someone else work through their process on the canvas, and may include visual aids. You may notice how their hands move, see how the medium is applied, and how they solve problems in real time. By watching the student is able to build a mental map of the process. One they can later recall and draw upon when working on their own work.
Draw Daily provides Videos with most lessons so that students can watch the process from start to finish.
Reading/Writing Learning
Reading and Writing learners benefit most when they can engage with text and take notes throughout the process. Rather than only watching or listening, these students absorb information by reading and and writing down key information. By combining the two, they create a stronger and deeper understanding of the subject matter to better recall and reflect on their observations later.
Draw Daily’s lesson is written out so that students can read along when watching and listening to a video isn’t enough.
Kinesthetic Learning
A Kinesthetic learner best retains information by physically doing. It is the act of drawing that buries the artist’s secrets into the student’s hand and mind. They notice how the pencil drags on the paper, how much pressure to apply, and how the wrist and shoulder move. Building up the muscle memory that instills these skills.
Draw Daily provides accompanying assignments with clear instruction along side our lessons so that students can practice by doing.
Social Learning
Social learners excel when they can discuss and exchange ideas with others. Group discussions, online communities, peer feedback, and collaborative challenges help social learners deepen their understanding through conversation and shared experience.
Draw Daily provides a Discord community where artists can come together to collaborate, learn, and grow in the format that suits them best.
Additional Learning Styles
Auditory Learning
Auditory learners best engage by hearing someone else explain information out loud. By listening to the instructions they strengthen their ability to understand, retain, and later recall what they learned. Students often benefit from repeated listening or verbal repetition.
Draw Daily narrates videos so you are not only seeing the process, but hearing each step along the way.
Self-Study/Experimental Learning
Self-directed learners grow their skills by experimenting while taking inspiration from previous lessons, they have the opportunity to test theories, follow their instincts, and discover new techniques through trial and error.
Draw Daily students are encouraged to spend time drawing outside of study, giving them the opportunity to experiment with and apply everything they’ve learned so far.
“Adventurers know that mastery begins, not with talent, but intention. To learn the weave and wield the art of Inkthæurgy, one must, not only gather knowledge, but thread it into the tapestry of their mind.
Your tasks a head will be shaped by many forces. The hour, the temperament of your surroundings, the pace of your stride, and even your mental fortitude can influence both your successes and your failures.
When these elements align in perfect harmony, just as the elements of the earth, wind, fire, and water, bring forth life, so will your journey ahead be clear.”
Format
The way you engage with a lesson - through video, written text, demonstrations, or hand-on exercises - can dramatically influence your ability to absorb and retain the information. Taking time to explore different formats can lead you to greater heights: more productive study sessions, more breakthroughs in your drawing abilities, and greater leaps in your understanding of a subject. Don’t be afraid to mix and match until you find an approach that works best for you.
Mindset/Goals
A strong mindset, and clear goals can forge a path forward for most. While some thrive on utter chaos and grit, sparking creativity from darkness, others must work to cast aside self-reflection - especially doubt and fear - to allow their ideas to flourish. Preparing your mind can transform practice into true skill, like forging glass from sand.
Time of Day
When you choose to study or draw can have a very powerful effect on your ability to focus and learn. If you are too tired, too restless, or more easily distracted, the material may not stick. Instead, finding your ideal moment to steal away - be it in the quiet calm of the early morning, during the hustle of the day, or after the sun has finally set - can set you up with a greater chance of success.
Consistency
Consistency is the quiet magic behind real growth. It is what builds momentum over time, reinforces previous lessons, and a steady pace forward. Long gaps between sessions can cause skills to slip into regression. Not everyone can practice daily, so what matters most is maintaining a rhythm that fits your life style. Consistency is how you progress and how you deepen your skills. Allowing a fledgling’s efforts to lead to mastery.
Additional Considerations
Environment
Being able to study effectively can greatly rely on the perfect work environment. Some artists thrive in silence, while others need the rhythmic pace of music to focus; some need a tidy work station, a comfortable chair, or a comfortable temperature to do their best. Ensuring the perfect environment can mean the difference between harrowing failure and soaring success.
