Assignment Two
Planes and Circles: One Vanishing Point
For this assignment you are going to practice drawing circles on planes that are receding towards a single vanishing point. You are using one vanishing point in the center of the canvas, but this would still function correctly whether you were creating something using one point or two point perspective.
Create three rows which establish the height of your boxes, and divide them with vertical lines. Draw in receding lines from the top and bottom towards the Vanishing Point. Establish the far side of the plane, closing off your boxes. Make sure that the distance between the two vertical lines decreases as you move closer to the vanishing point; this effect is known as foreshortening. As the plane turns away from the viewer, the distance between the two sides appears to shrink.
Once again, divide your boxes diagonally, and then vertically and horizontally, using the vanishing point to establish the angle of the horizontal line.
Because the foreshortening creates the illusion that the left and right sides of the planes are smaller than the height of the plane, the circles you draw will also appear more narrow as well, they becomes ellipses rather than circles in this perspective.
Assignment Two
To complete this assignment
Create two sheets of planes and draw in the ellipses (totaling 48) using a single vanishing point, as shown in the video.
