Assignment One

Planes and Circles: No Vanishing Point

For this first assignment, you are going to create a gird of squares. You do not need a horizon line or vanishing point to set this up, but we are still working with one point perspective.

Just like in the examples, you must divide each box, diagonally with an X, before drawing a straight line through the horizontal and vertical centers, using the X to place them.

With Your divisions in place, you can start filling your squares in. Focus on drawing the circles as best you can without getting too preoccupied with perfection. At this point you are just practicing a new skill, and it will improve with time.

In one point perspective you can look directly at a plane and not have it recede towards a Vanishing Point. For the same reason, this is the only perspective where you can draw a perfect circle as opposed to an ellipse since again, we are looking directly at it without it receding towards a vanishing point.

To complete this assignment

  1. Create a sheet of squares to practice drawing your circles; at least 20 of them, like in the example. Remember you are not working with a vanishing point, because the planes you are working with are not receding away. This is still considered one point perspective, because in one point perspective when you draw a box, the front plane directly faces the viewer.

  2. Post your results on Discord under assignments and feedback.
